BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, NY – One child was killed and another hospitalized after they were struck by a van just seconds after it dropped them off at a yeshiva in Brooklyn last Monday morning.
According to the New York Post, the accident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. in front of Yeshiva Ketana of Bensonhurst, within the 2000 block of 67th Street. The children were crossing in front of a 15-passenger van that had brought them from Staten Island.
One of the children, a 4-year-old, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other, who is 5-years-old, was rushed to Maimonides Hospital to be treated for serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.
The 76-year-old driver left the scene and returned a short time later when he realized what had happened. A rabbi at the school says the children were not related.
No charges have been filed against the driver involved in the crash at this time.
