1 Killed in Accident on George Washington Bridge

There were massive traffic backups on the George Washington Bridge because of a seven-vehicle crash that happened around 8 pm on July 8 on the inbound upper-level of the bridge. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the New York Fire Department came to the scene.

Officials closed several lanes of the bridge, but the entire inbound upper-level was a parking lot. The collision caused backups on the bridge of an hour or more. Authorities urged drivers to find a different route to get to New York City. The bridge finally reopened at 2 am Monday, but some routes experienced delays into the morning.

One person died in the crash, and four others suffered injuries. Police have not released the name or age of the person who died. It is unknown whether the fatality was an occupant of one of the seven vehicles or a pedestrian. Emergency personnel rushed at least four other people to a nearby hospital. Officials say their injuries are not life-threatening.

In a chain-reaction crash like this, it can be hard to sort out who should be responsible for the injuries and vehicle damage. With several vehicles in a collision, each driver might have a different version of what happened. Eyewitnesses might tell yet another story.

At Oresky & Associates, PLLC>, we will help you determine who caused your injuries and work to hold them liable for your damages or a loved one’s injuries in the event of a wrongful death. We usually find, in multi-car pile-ups, that more than one person was negligent. In this case, we may be able to hold several parties liable.

We can use the police reports and eyewitness statements to sort out the convoluted questions of how each driver’s negligence contributed to the collision. The law of comparative fault will then apportion how much liability each driver is responsible for.
