BRONX, NEW YORK, NY – Eight people were sent to the hospital after an MTA bus careened off a busy Bronx overpass late Thursday night.
According to the New York Post, the accident occurred at about 11:10 p.m. The driver of a Bx35 bus lost control of the vehicle as he was attempting to make a left turn off University Avenue to the George Washington Bridge, causing it to veer off the overpass.
The accordion bus landed with its windshield pressed against the Cross Bronx Expressway while its rear section dangled from the elevated roadway above.
Of the eight people who were hurt in the crash, one sustained serious injuries. Seven others were taken to nearby hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. It is still unclear whether all of the injured individuals had been passengers on the bus.
