Wednesday, June 3, 2015, five young adults were involved in a horrific one car crash off of southbound I-95 exit 19 towards Rye Playland at around 12:30 PM (EST).
The car, a red 2013 Audi A4, was speeding and crashed into a concrete partition when it failed to negotiate the right hand curve. New York State Police say that one of the passengers, Vanessa Hoodith, 16 of Brooklyn, was in the rear of the car and was pronounced dead at Greenwich hospital as a result of severe bodily injuries.
Another passenger, Rajiv Sardjoe, 17, of Queens, was taken immediately to the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he later passed away as a result of his injuries.
The remaining three passengers were taken to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. As of now the extent of the injuries of those who survived the crash are not publicly available.
Witnesses and investigators state that the Red Audi A4 was going over the recommended speed limit while exiting of I-95 when the driver lost control and crashed the car into the partition.
The investigation is continuing and, as of now, no charges have been filed against the driver, who is an 18-year-old young man from Hollis, Queens. The two other surviving passengers are also from Queens. The local Rye police have not divulged if the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victims of this tragic accident.
