Bronx Security Guard Killed by Falling Glass at Construction Site

Bronx Security Guard Killed by Falling Glass at Construction SiteA Bronx security guard died after a piece of glass tipped over and fell on him at his workplace in Midtown, Manhattan on May 26, reports News 12 in the Bronx.

The New York Fire Department responded to a call for a construction-related accident at 10:30 a.m. Harry Ramnauth was rushed to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital after an 8-foot by 14-foot piece of glass crushed him.

How the Accident Occurred

The accident occurred as construction workers attempted to move the 3,000-pound glass panel.

The workers were attempting to install the glass panel on the first floor when it tipped over and fell on Ramnauth.

The 67-year-old was unresponsive and unconscious with severe body trauma when emergency services arrived on the scene. He was declared dead shortly after arriving at Mount Sinai Hospital.

According to reports, construction workers were attempting to free Ramnauth from underneath the glass panel when emergency services came on scene. A 27-year-old construction worker also fractured his foot while attempting to save Ramnauth.

The site, located at 217 W. 57 St., is home to the construction of the Central Park Tower.

The State’s Response to the Accident

The incident remains under investigation. In the meantime, New York’s Department of Buildings has issued a stop work order. A violation was issued to the developers for failing to ensure employee safety on the site.

The project is being overseen by Extell and Bovis Lend Lease. While Extell and Bovis Lend Lease have yet to release a public statement, reports indicate that they are cooperating with investigators.
