Our own Carlos J. Figueroa, paralegal at Oresky & Associates, PLLC. for over 21 years, and friend to over 1,000 clients, was honored as one of New York’s twenty-four most outstanding Latino men on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the annual El Awards luncheon.
The honor, sponsored by El Diario La Prensa, celebrates the accomplishments, leadership and heritage of men who have overcome every obstacle to become role models for future generations.
The luncheon was held at the prestigious Havana Room, a members-only establishment on Fifth Avenue.
Carlos, on whom so many people have depended, has worked at Oresky & Associates, PLLC. since 1993. For 21 years he has used his experience in accident law, bilingual language skills and knowledge of the Hispanic community to work for people who have been hurt.
He investigates construction and other accidents on behalf of clients, translates for them and accompanies them to court. Even after a full and demanding day, he still has the time to accompany neighbors to important meetings and shops and fills prescriptions for disabled clients.
Carlos was born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico.
He came with his mother and four older siblings to a Spanish section of the Bronx when he was 6. Even at an early age, he became the neighborhood translator, accompanying family and neighbors to meetings and other important events.
He graduated from Stevenson High School and obtained an Associate Degree from Monroe College before coming to Oresky & Associates, PLLC. shortly after it first opened its door.
He has always been a man that we are proud to know, and we believe that it is fitting that he is now one of a small group of New York’s Hispanic men honored for his leadership in the community.
El Diario, New York’s leading Spanish language daily, created the El Award in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month and in partnership with the Hispanic community.
Only 250 men have been so honored, since its creation a decade ago. Corporate sponsors include the NY Yankees, NY Jets, Toyota, Rums of Puerto Rico, 4NBC and Telemundo47.
