Construction Accident on the Upper East Side Injures 7

Construction-injuryA 170-foot tall mobile crane snapped in half and crashed into a neighboring building before collapsing on the construction site of a new 25-story residential building located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

At least seven individuals were injured by the accident, including three who sustained serious injuries. The cause of the accident remains to be determined.

New York Labor law §240(1) requires that all general contractors and owners, as well as their agents, provide proper safety equipment to protect construction workers from the hazards associated with the effects of grates.

This includes providing construction workers with devices such as safety harnesses and life lines to prevent falls. The law also requires materials and equipment to be secured as well.

New York Courts have found building owners and general contractors, as well as their agents, liable for injuries sustained by construction workers due to falling objects at a worksite.
