In what could have been a catastrophe earlier this week, a 41 ton construction vehicle entering a worksite in Midtown Manhattan tipped over causing its boom to land on an unoccupied NYPD van. The enormous boom landed on the adjacent sidewalk, just missing nearby pedestrians. The sidewalk had not been closed off to pedestrian traffic at the time which may have been a safety violation.
Violations are nothing new to the general contractor at the site, Flint Lock of Westchester, which has previously been cited by OSHA for violations. The company was even fined a quarter of a million dollars after the agency alleged that Flint Lock failed to provide fall protection for its workers during the building of a hotel.
Work at the site was shut down by the Building Department following this accident.
