Fire truck collides with ambulance, killing one and injuring another

A 59-year-old man being transported in an ambulance was killed when a fire truck crashed into the vehicle Thursday morning, Sept. 17 in Brooklyn, CBSNewYork reported. The man’s sister, 35, was riding in the ambulance as well. She was reported to be in critical condition. The man was being taken to the hospital after suffering a heart attack, according to the New York Police Department.

The fire truck that struck the ambulance was responding to a fire call, traveling eastbound on Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn at approximately 1 a.m. The ambulance was heading northbound on Throop Avenue when they collided.

The fire truck struck the driver’s side of the ambulance, making it spin around and strike an SUV that was carrying two passengers. Police said they sustained minor injuries. The two EMTs in the ambulance and six firefighters in the fire truck were reported to all be in stable condition.

Were You Injured In An Accident With an Emergency Vehicle?

If you were hurt or if you lost a loved one in a collision with an emergency vehicle in New York, know that you have rights and legal options. At Oresky & Associates, PLLC, our team understands how devastating an accident like this can be, and how it can impact your life and livelihood. If you were hurt in an emergency vehicle accident due to the recklessness or negligence of another person or party, you could be owed significant compensation for your losses, including:

  • Current and future medical bills
  • Lost wages from time missed from work
  • Vehicle repairs (or replacement, if totaled)
  • Rental vehicle costs
  • Loss of affection or companionship

In the worst-case scenario, accident victims may not survive their injuries. When this happens, the surviving family members could seek compensation through a wrongful death claim. If successful, the family could recover payment for funeral and burial costs, loss of future earnings, and more.
