Queens – Early in the morning of Sunday October 4th, Mariano Contreras, 41-years-old, was crossing College Point Blvd. when he was hit and thrown to the pavement by a dark-colored SUV. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene according to reports, he quickly left the place of the accident heading north on College Point Boulevard.
When officers arrived at the accident scene after receiving a call at 1:09 am, Contreras was found unconscious on the pavement. He was immediately transported by Emergency Medical Service of New York (EMS) to New York Hospital of Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation showed that Mariano tried to cross College Point Boulevard outside the marked pedestrian cross walk when he was struck by the SUV. The hit and run car accident and resulting death, caused NYPD to launch an investigation.
No arrests have been made yet, and investigations are still on going by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad, as reported by a police spokesman.
