Teenager Hurt in Hit and Run Car Accident

Man on pedestrian crossing in danger of being hit by car

A Queens teenager suffered injuries after being hit by a driver who fled the scene on foot. Authorities are looking for the driver and others who were in the car. Witnesses of the June 5 pedestrian hit-and-run accident saw the SUV, which police say was stolen, speeding in the wrong direction down the one-way street before hitting the teen and then a parked car.

The collision caused the teen to flip onto the SUV’s hood before he fell onto nearby grass.

The teen’s parents hope the culprits will turn themselves in to the authorities as they proceed with treating their child’s injuries and the trauma associated with the accident.

Pedestrian accidents are often traumatic, life-threatening events. Hit-and-runs with stolen vehicles only add to the complexity of these accidents. The situation leaves many victims wondering how they will cover their medical expenses and other losses related to the accident.

Fortunately, in New York State, the Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation, “MVAIC,” provides protection for New York State residents that are the victims of hit-and-run accidents. The Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation provides comprehensive compensation to innocent victims of accidents, who through no fault of their own, were involved in motor vehicle accidents caused by: (1) Hit & Run Motor Vehicles; (2) Stolen Motor Vehicles; (3) Uninsured Motor Vehicles; (4) Motor Vehicles operated without the permission of the owner; as well as several other situations.

What Benefits Are Available?

The Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation will pay to any qualified person, no-fault benefits, up to $50,000.00 for hospital, surgical, medical, dental, prescription drug expenses and other economic losses including lost earnings. In addition MVAIC will also compensate the accident victim for injuries caused by the accident (please note that not every injury is compensable). A maximum sum of $25,000.00 is available to any one person injured in any one accident and $50,000.00 in the event of death. The $25,000/$50,000 is in addition to the no-fault coverage provided for medical bills and lost wages.

(Note: If you or a family member owns or leases a vehicle, your vehicle’s insurance policy will provide the same type or greater insurance coverage as that provided by the MVAIC.)
