LEONARDSVILLE, NY – Three people sustained severe injuries in a head-on tractor-trailer crash on Sunday evening.
WKTV reports that the crash occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. on August 2. William Chaisson was driving his pick-up truck north on State Route 8 near School Street when he collided head-on with a tractor-trailer. Witnesses report that Chaisson drove into the southbound lane and hit the tractor-trailer driven by 44-year-old Justin Parker.
Three ambulances and a Mercy Flight emergency helicopter arrived on the scene to assist the accident victims, according to Syracuse.com. Officials on the scene had to extract Chaisson from his truck and airlift him to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Medics stated that Chaisson is in stable condition.
Tractor-trailer driver, Justin Parker, and a female passenger were both injured in the crash. Medical personnel transported both victims to a local hospital for treatment. According to reports on August 4, both Parker and the passenger have been released from the hospital.
After the accident, Madison County Sheriffs closed all traffic on State Route 8 for several hours. At this time, the police have not charged either driver for the accident. However, the incident is still under investigation.
Common Injuries from Commercial Vehicle Collisions
Collisions involving commercial vehicles can be particularly devastating. These vehicles are larger and weigh much more than the average car, which increases the overall force of the crash.
Although every commercial truck collision is different, some of the most common injuries from these accidents include:
- Lacerations and bruises
- Broken or shattered bones
- Hip and shoulder dislocation
- Neck and back injuries
- Spinal cord damage that may result in paralysis
- Internal organ damage
- Traumatic brain injury
Any of these injuries may require emergency medical services, surgery, and hospitalization. Even with the best medical care available, you may still experience chronic pain and serious disabilities that impact your life long after the accident occurs.
Managing your injuries after a commercial truck accident is often incredibly expensive. In addition to the immediate medical expenses from your injuries, you may need to pay for ongoing medical care and rehabilitation services. You may also have to take extended time off of work to heal, or your injuries may be so severe that you cannot return to work after the accident. The financial repercussions of your accident can cause a significant burden for you and your loved ones, preventing you from moving forward with your life.
You should never have to struggle in the aftermath of an accident caused by a negligent truck driver, trucking company, or other entity. That is why you need to seek compensation as soon as possible after a serious commercial truck accident. The money you receive from your truck accident injury claim can never undo the pain of your accident, but it can ensure that you and your loved ones have the financial support you need to heal.
