The crash happened less than five miles from Little Britain Elementary School. The work truck involved was owned by a local tree trimming service company.
The New Windsor Police Department reported that a preliminary investigation revealed a westbound truck crossed over a double yellow line and hit a school bus, traveling eastbound, head-on. The front of the school bus was severely damaged. The accident is still under investigation.
Police said a third vehicle was also involved in the crash.
New Windsor Police also reported that eight children were on the bus at the time of the collision. One of the children, a girl, had to be extricated from the bus and was critically injured. The children were all taken to St. Luke’s Hospital to be examined.

Driver Error in Truck Crashes
Truck drivers take on an important responsibility every time they get on the road. Truck drivers have to drive carefully and follow safety standards to ensure that they do not put other drivers at risk. Commercial trucks are much larger and heavier than other cars on the road, which makes them more difficult to maneuver and control. This puts large trucks at greater risk of causing a serious or even life-threatening accident.
When a truck driver behaves carelessly or demonstrates negligence while driving, they are significantly more likely to cause an accident. Some of the most common of these dangerous behaviors include:
- Falling asleep at the wheel
- Driving while fatigued
- Distracted driving
- Driving too close to other vehicles
- Failing to obey road signs
- Taking tight turns
Regardless of the type of dangerous behavior, many accidents could be prevented if truck drivers exercise proper care and caution. The negligence of a driver is inexcusable, and the driver must pay the price for their actions.
